On the last Saturday in May, nine u15 teams gathered at Krugersdorp High School astro to participate in an all day festival of hockey with goodies bags sponsored by SPAR. The hosts, KHS, welcomed 7 other schools (Randpark fielded two teams) to their Astro for a round robin tournament of 36 matches.
15 matches were played before the first waterbreak in which Toni Marks, 20+ (11’s and 5’s) international caps for SA, presented a short demonstration on drag flicks to the drag flickers on each team and also gave away a lovely hoodie from her brand, F&H.

The second session of the morning included 14 matches including the much-anticpated tie between Noordheuwel and Steyn City.
During the second waterbreak, SPAR provided the winner of the side-jump competition with a goodie bag.

Going into the final sessions Steyn City had only one match left to secure the overall win on the day against the hosts and duly delivered. The winner on the day was Steyn City by virtue of scoring the most goals and winning the most matches.
Importantly, the different u15 schools were able to play schools they seldomly compete with and some of the kids were fortunate to participate in a little one-on-one with an international player.
Supersport Schools broadcast the action live via their app, matches can still be viewed by downloading the app and searching for the event “SPAR SCHOOLGIRLS’ HOCKEY CHALLENGE-2023”
