King Price Derby Series 2026 kicks off in style

The opening round of the 2026 King Price Derby Series delivered two emphatic performances on Saturday (14 March) as schoolboy rugby returned to centre stage. On a warm, sunny day in George, Hoërskool Outeniqua’s Kwaggas ran riot against Nico Malan, powering their way to a convincing 45–0 victory. Up in Durban, Northwood High School’s Knights thrilled their home crowd at Reece-Edwards Field, beating Glenwood High School 40–7 in near-perfect rugby conditions.

With the opening salvos fired, attention now shifts to another mouth-watering round of King Price Derby Series clashes on Saturday, 21 March. In Stellenbosch, Paul Roos will host Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool, who come into the fixture brimming with confidence after their impressive 34–20 win away at Waterkloof. In Bloemfontein, Grey College will look to build on their dominant 38–7 victory over Oakdale when they welcome Hoërskool Monument, who also opened their season with a win against Welkom Gimnasium.

The KwaZulu-Natal rivalry between Westville Boys’ High and Maritzburg College promises another fierce encounter. College arrives in Durban with momentum after their solid 31–19 victory over Helpmekaar in Pietermaritzburg, setting the stage for what should be another high-intensity King Price Derby Series showdown.

With the season now underway, supporters can expect the same passion and school pride that have made the King Price Derby Series one of the highlights of the South African schoolboy rugby calendar.
