SPAR Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge Heronbridge 2024

The SPAR Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge at Heronbridge transpired on Saturday May 25th and was attended by 8 girls teams from Gauteng.

Hosts, Heronbridge College, welcomed Eldoraigne, Randpark High School, Linden High School, Parktown Girls High School, Fourways High School, Krugersdorp High School and Silver Stars Hockey Club on a cool pre-winter morning to their beautiful astro on the outskirts of Fourways. The eight U15 girls teams were divided into two pools of four where the top two of each pool would progress to a play-off to determine the 3rd/4th and top two positions.

The 14 matches were played with a running clock and produced goals in every fixture all the way to the final for the spectators to enjoy while the canteen had snacks and coffee on standby for anyone in need. The players, and support staff, were treated to SPAR goodies bags filled with a variety of SPAR branded treats!

The four teams to progress to the last two matches were Hoërskool Linden, Krugersdorp High School, Eldoraigne and Fourways High School. Over the years we have seen Eldoraigne in the top positions frequently. This is the first time Linden High School have participated and they played Krugersdorp High School in the trophy match.

Fiona Harrison from Krugersdorp High School had this to say on the day, “Another great event sponsored by Spar and hosted by Heronbridge. Krugersdorp High School is very honoured to have been a part of the festival. The girls had a lot of fun and are already looking forward to the next event.”

Krugersdorp High School recently hosted the first SPAR Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge of 2024 during their Best of the West tournament earlier in the season.

In the Final, Linden cleared the ball off their goal line before going down the other end and scoring in open play. Krugersdorp High School tried to counterattack throughout the match but Linden High School would hold onto their lead and take the trophy home.

Next we are in the Vaal for the 3rd edition of the 2024 SPAR Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge.
