Coetzer, Fourie Fifers Galvanized Titans And Lions To Women’s One-day Cup Triumphs

Fidelity Titans’ Ricea Coetzer and Yolani Fourie of the DP World Lions recorded impressive five-wicket hauls to help their sides claim convincing victories over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Six Gun Grill Western Province as the CSA Women’s One-Day Cup resumed on Saturday.
In a North vs South derby in Cape Town, experienced campaigner Yolani Fourie bagged five wickets for 37 runs as the Lions ripped through the Western Province batters to dismiss them for 103 and inflict their first 50-over defeat of the season after the visitors posted 197 / 6 enroute to a 94-run victory.
Meanwhile, Coetzer grabbed leading figures of five for 23 in her nine overs as the Titans restricted the Dolphins to a below-par score of 121 all out in 40 overs, before the Pretoria-based outfit chased down the set target with 13.2 overs to spare to earn a four-wicket win.
At the Six Gun Grill Newlands Stadium in the Mother City, Division One log-leaders Western Province won the toss and elected to bowl first in a rain-affected clash as Tatum le Roux (2 / 33) and Nadine de Klerk (2 / 42) made early inroads into the Lions top-order before Kirstie Thomson and Karabo Mesi rebuilt the innings with a crucial stand.
Both batters reached their deserved half-centuries, with Thomson bringing up her milestone off 49 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, while Meso undertook a measured approach to raise her bat for a 87-ball 51 (5 fours), as the Lions were propelled to 197 / 6 in their allotted 48 overs.
In their chase, WP failed to find the required rhythm at the crease as a regular fall of wickets hindered their progress, with Fourie and the Proteas Women duo of Ayabonga Khaka (1 / 7) and Tumi Sekhukhune (1 / 15) wreaking havoc with ball in hand.
Despite the best efforts of top-scorers de Klerk (25*) and Saarah Smith (17), Province were eventually skittled out for 103 in the 29th over as Fourie stood head and shoulders above the rest to help her team to the surprise result of the weekend.
In the other Division One clash, despite a solid start from the home side with the bat, with Dolphins’ openers Courtney Gounden (37) and Alexandra Candler (22) leading the charge, the Titans, inspired by Coezter’s five-wicket haul, roared back to inflict a Dolphins collapse as the hosts were bowled out for 121 after 40 overs.
In reply, young SA U19 rising star, Simone Lourens got the Titans off to an ideal start at the crease with a composed 39 off 58 deliveries before further contributions from Eliz-Mari Marx (25*) and skipper Robyn Searle (24) helped the away side make light work of the chase to wrap up a confidence-boosting, 94-run success at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
In Division Two, there also were straightforward victories for Eastern Province and the Northern Cape Heat as they defeated Kei and the Limpopo Impalas by 130 and 146 runs respectively.
The CSA Women’s Provincial T20 Cup takes centre stage on Sunday, 19 March as the action continues across the same set of fixtures in Durban, Cape Town as well as Gqeberha and Polokwane.
