RMB National Squad Shines on European Stage

South Africa is proud to announce the successful return of the RMB National Squad from their recent European tour, where they competed in two of the sport’s most prestigious international regattas: World Cup II in Lucerne, Switzerland, and the Henley Royal Regatta (HRR) in the United Kingdom.

Representing the nation with determination and distinction were Paige Badenhorst in the Women’s Single Scull and the Men’s Pair of Chris Baxter and Damien Bonhage-Koen.

At World Cup II, held on the iconic Rotsee in Lucerne, Badenhorst secured a commendable 8th place finish, while Baxter and Bonhage-Koen narrowly missed out on a podium spot, finishing an impressive 4th overall. These early-season results underscore the squad’s growing speed and cohesion, serving as an exciting benchmark for the racing cycle ahead.

Following Lucerne, the squad travelled to the UK for the Henley Royal Regatta, one of the most historic and prestigious events on the global rowing calendar. With a long-standing tradition of success at Henley, Rowing South Africa was thrilled to participate once again in the event, which combines top-tier competition with rich tradition and vibrant sporting culture.

Speaking on the tour, Head Coach Tiago Loureiro reflected on its significance:

“Our time at World Cup II in Lucerne and the Henley Royal Regatta was invaluable. We gained critical data, race experience, and insights that will shape our preparations moving forward. We were especially pleased with our racing speed in Lucerne, which is a strong testament to our evolving methodology. In turn, Henley was a monumental experience – an iconic regatta we were honoured to be part of. Competing there was not only inspiring, but also a reminder of the rich tradition and global stage we’re building toward.”

This European campaign marks an encouraging milestone in Rowing South Africa’s 2025 season, with a clear focus on continued progress and international excellence.
