SA Hockey IPT 2025 – Day 3 Wrap-Up

Hartleyvale Stadium, Cape Town | 30 July 2025

Day 3 delivered the drama we all anticipated—with semi-final spots on the line, the intensity dialled up across the board. The defending champions clawed back from the brink, the SA U21s continued to light up the tournament, and the hosts remained perfect in front of their home crowd. With the group stages wrapped up in both the A Sections and the B Section finalists confirmed, all eyes now turn to the knockouts.

Women’s A Section

Northern Blues 3–0 North West
Staring down elimination, the Northern Blues reminded everyone why they’re the reigning champions. A composed and clinical performance saw indoor international Laiken Brisset net a brace, and a late strike from Cailynn den Bakker sealed their semi-final spot. North West, despite two strong wins, were cruelly eliminated on goal difference.

SA U21 5–1 WP Peninsula
The Junior Proteas booked their place in the semis in emphatic fashion, outclassing WP Pens. Anja Tromp and Malikah Hamza gave SA U21 a two-goal lead before Lane Barnard pulled one back. But the second half was all one-way traffic—Paris-Gail Isaacs, Ane Janse van Vuuren, and Teshawn de la Rey closed out a resounding victory.

Southern Gauteng 7–0 Free State
After Tuesday’s heavy loss to WP, Southerns needed a response—and delivered it in style. Seven goals, including a brace from Bianca Wood and strikes from Hannah Pearce, Kristen Paton, Sylvia van Jaarsveldt, Jacolene McLaren, and UnathiMagudulela, saw them power into the semis.

Western Province 3–0 KZN Raiders
WP closed out the pool phase with another dominant display. Goals from Ashleigh Thomas, Onthatile Zulu, and Stephanie Botha inside the first 25 minutes were enough to maintain their perfect record—three games, three wins, three clean sheets. The favourites remain firmly on course.

Men’s A Section

Northern Blues 5–0 Free State
Although already out of the running, Northern Blues ended their campaign on a high with a commanding win. Jack Waddell and Calvin Davis both scored twice, with Caleb Arries adding the fifth to complete a professional performance.

SA U21 3–0 WP Peninsula
In a top-of-the-table clash, the Junior Men emerged victorious to finish Pool A unbeaten. Litha Kraai broke the deadlock after a cagey first half, and Reuben Sendzul’s late double added gloss to a result that cements their position as genuine title contenders.

Southern Gauteng 1–1 KZN Raiders
Southerns needed just a point to secure top spot in Pool B and got exactly that. Liam Hermanus gave them the lead, but Dylan Ferreira responded for the Raiders. The draw was enough to see Southerns into the semis as pool winners.

Western Province 6–0 Eastern Province
Needing a result to progress, the hosts made no mistake. Hans Neethling and ViweMbata struck early before Jacques van Tonder’s double extended the lead to four by halftime. Mustapha Cassiem converted a penalty stroke in the second half to wrap up a dominant performance and confirm WP’s semi-final place.

Women’s B Section

Eastern Province 2–0 WP Disa
EP had already secured their place in Friday’s final but made sure of their perfect record with a gritty win over WP Disa. Olympian Toni Marks came alive in the final quarter, scoring twice to maintain EP’s unbeaten and unbreached run.

WP Disa 7–0 Mpumalanga
With a final berth on the line, Disa delivered in spectacular fashion. Needing only a draw, they cruised to a 7-0 victory to eliminate Mpumalanga and set up a rematch with EP in Friday’s final.

The Women’s B Section now takes a rest day on Thursday before the final on Friday.
