What is the Dookie Downhill?

Run Ride Dive News

Dookie Downhill is a downhill skateboard and luge race co-hosted by First Nature and Pure Rush. The hill is one of the most technical ever raced in South Africa. There is a prize pool of R15 000 up for grabs so you can be sure to expect a lot of action!

This is a two day event from Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 July.

Saturday will be practice from 10am to 2pm. At 2pm we will begin time trials where each rider will go down the hill alone to get a time which will seed them for the final racing. After time trials we will put the top four qualifiers into a heat and the winner of this heat will be crowned King of the Hill.

Sunday we will begin warm-up runs from 8am if the skaters are up for it as early as that. At 12pm we will begin the final racing, 2 skaters per heat in a double elimination racing bracket (each skater must lose two heats before being eliminated). Racing should be done by 3pm, we’ll have a quick prize giving once all the races are complete and then we’ll head off to a nearby pub to celebrate.

The race will be held on the road which is commonly known as Hillclimb Drive (Thomas Jackson Road according to Google Maps) located in Delporton, Krugersdorp, Johannesburg. GPS coordinates are -26.079501, 27.731613.

The main objective of this event is to grow the gravity racing scene in Gauteng. Currently the majority of races are held in the Western Cape making it difficult for Gauteng skaters to get good race experience. In future we hope to host more events like these and hopefully one day soon our Gauteng skaters will be able to give the coastal guys a run for their money! Another reason for hosting these kind of events is to provide the safest possible environment where skaters can do what they love most: GO FAST!
