Scuba – Week 18, 2013
What a fantastic day at the Durban Undersea Club on Saturday. The divers braved the cold and rain to attend the Scubapro Day.
Dive conditions were good despite the weather, Number 1 Reef saw 20 meter visibility and lots of interesting critters were spotted. Some of the sightings were some Whip Gobies and Frogfish. After 4 launches by 5 operators a little more fun was had back at the DUC.
A few guys decided to explore the new dive site aka the parking lot. And in the tent the festivities continued, a little gluwein to warm everyone up. A big thank you to all the divers who supported the Sharks Angels, generously digging into their pockets to raise some funds for shark conservation. Should you want more information on the Sharks Angels go to www.sharkangels.org and see the great things they are achieving.
After an interesting presentation by Patrick Voorma on the new wreck sites discovered off Durban, including the latest HMS Otus submarine, it was time for prize giving. The winner of the Spirit of Sealife competition, a photography competition where you got to show people the fun of diving, was won by Robby Sturgeon for his puddle diving photo. And Chantal Hillier was the winner of the lucky draw, winning the limited gold edition of the Scubapro S600 regulator.
Thank you once again to everyone that attended, and to quote Reece, ” There are some hard core divers” here in Durban. Not even the weather can get us down.
