Greatest of all time (GOAT). This term is used to describe that one team or individual who stand so far above their peers in their respective field that it is the only way to describe them. In the case of football, soccer, futbol or whatever else the beautiful game is called that team is Liverpool Football Club. With 18 League titles, 7 FA Cups, 8 League Cups, 15 charity shield titles, 5 European Cups, 3 European Super Cups and 3 UEFA Cup titles there is no club that can compete with that record.
2015 is once again the year that they dominate the footballing landscape.
And the reasons why become clear when you look at the transfer dealings this summer. Firstly the off loading of the money grabbing 1 season hero that was Raheem “I have a Pineapple Haircut” Sterling.
Now that that’s out the way we can focus on the world class signings coming in. Some clubs want Pedro or Schweinsteiger or Muller but not LFC, we don’t even need Marco Reus because we have got Christian Benteke, the giant Belgian will be striking fear into the hearts of defenders at every turn and it’s clear that he will easily tally 30 goals this season.
The reason for his tally will be in part to the Brazilian tandem of Coutinho and Firmino behind him. The two playmakers will mesmerize opponents for fun and once they’ve had their way will offload to the goal machine himself. Also in the midfield we have the Welsh Xavi in Joe Allen and our new captain Jordan Henderson who has matured into the solid and gifted leader we all knew he would.
And if you needed more proof, Dejan Lovren and Sakho at the back will find their feet this season, every good defensive combo needs a season to settle in together. Add to that the future England #1 RB Nathaniel Clyne has pulled on the mighty red jersey and that means that this season Mignolet will have so little work to do between the sticks.
This will be our year, the stars are aligning and to quote Gerry & the Pacemakers after the dark few years we have had “There’s a golden sky..
And the sweet silver song of the lark” ..
Walk on to glory Liverpool FC, Walk On.
