The 4th annual United We Stand took place at the Gateway Shopping Centre and Durban Beach Front from 31 October – 2 November with 120 teams competing for R24 000 cash as sponsored by UWS partner, Reebok South Africa.

Dean, co-owner of Reebok CrossFit Durban and UWS says, “UWS is geared towards every athlete and not only the elite. Offering such a platform is a true honour”. UWS has doubled in entry size since its inception 4 years ago and they aim to improve every year.

The atmosphere is not only fun but supportive with the stands never offering a quiet moment, shouting the names of their favourite teams and athletes. Andy, Dean’s business partner, says “The success of UWS is the support of the spectators, competing teams as well as the relationships and results. “

United We Stand runs over 3 days and consists of varied functional movements, including muscle-ups, handstand push-ups and box-jumps.

Team member of Cape CrossFit Amraptors and online editor of Women’s Health, Thamar Houliston explained UWS to be “a really fun experience, with great support from competitors, team members and the Durban community. It’s well organised and truly one of the most exciting events for CrossFitters. It really challenged us!”
Teams were widely challenged with 2-3 events per day, going from 120 teams to only 20 in the finals with CrossFit Pretoria, run by Chad Theron, being announced the winner for UWS 2014. Theron commented, “CrossFit is about connecting with people, and being better at life!”

CrossFit Glenvista and CrossFit Radium were first and second runners up.
Having to sum up UWS in one word, both Andy and Dean agreed – “epic!”
