The Big5 Sports Challenge at the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival

For the fourth year, the Festival presents the ultimate in sporting adventures – the Big5 Challenge.

The festival-long challenge has cycling and running on both road and breathtaking trails.

The first of the events took place on Saturday, 29 June in the form of the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour. An 80km MTB race.

Dan Hugo was the first male home in a time of 03:09 and Carla van Huyssteen led the females with a time of 3:44:08.

Sunday, 30 June saw road cyclists in action in the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour – 100km Road race where Lieuwe Boonstra squeaked into the winning spot in a time of 1:55:02 while Junita Kruger comfortably won in a time of 2:13:10.

The other Big5 event on Sunday was the Knysna Lagoon Challenge 22km paddle race. Martin Fraser-Mackenzie took first place in a time of 1:56:09 and the first female in was Jade de Hutton in a time of 2:30:59.

 

The next event in the Big5 Sports Challenge is the Featherbed Trail Run on Tuesday, 2 July.
