This Wednesday, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka takes on Brabantse Pijl with an eager group of eight riders ready to fight for glory. The Belgian one-day race serves as the perfect transition race between the cobblestone races and the up-coming Ardennes classics.
With no less than 26 hills to overcome, it’s no coincidence that many riders targeting Sunday’s Amstel Gold Race decide to test their legs in Brabantse Pijl, which simulates the short and hard uphill efforts that await the peloton this weekend. It’s usually a very open race with numerous attacks taking place on the last three laps on the finishing circuit. The most crucial part is the final uphill section on the last kilometer. Here, the road kicks up for 700 meters with an average gradient of 6 %. After the top, the riders turn left in a sharp 90° corner before the last 200 meters are flat towards the finishing line.
Nathan Haas will lead Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka in Brabantse Pijl after finishing sixth on two occasions within the last three years. To support the punchy Australian, the team brings the following riders: Kristian Sbaragli, Youcef Reguigui, Ryan Gibbons, Jaco Venter, Ben O’Connor, Jacques Janse van Rensburg & Daniel Teklehaimanot
Jacques Janse van Rensburg:
“This is a very nice race, which I have come to enjoy the last two years. The finishing circuit is great with some short steep hills as well as some technical sections. Personally, I came out of Volta a Catalunya feeling good so now I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do in the Ardennes races. We have a good team with Nathan [Haas] and Kristian [Sbaragli] who have done well here before. We are really motivated to achieve a victory together”.
