Suzuki Swift 1,4 GL

I like nippy little city cars and the Swift was not disappointing to drive. Not the fastest but one of the most effective of the smaller cars that I’ve driven. It isn’t the quickest but then again it doesn’t really need to be. If you look at what the car is designed for and who the car is designed for then it really is effective the way it is. Its price is a little more than some of its competitors but not so much it’s unreasonable. I loved driving the Swift – gearbox was good, it felt solid, and it handled well for a small entry level car. Suzuki has come a long way since re-entering the South African market and I really think that the Swift is one of the best small cars currently on the market. It offers a well finished product to the buyer. A lot of the smaller cars feel very baron inside and very plastic. The Swift however makes one feel that this is the finished article – though it isn’t sophisticated it very well finished. Run Ride Dive Motorsport

The small car market has changed a lot of the years and it seems to be a difficult market to get a foot hold. It seems that Suzuki is getting something right with the Swift. Safety features are ok, I always like having side impact protection in a car so I’m a little disappointed the Swift doesn’t have it. The Swift has definitely cemented itself in the market and with the Swift Sport it has cleverly made itself very noteworthy.

I think the Swift will do well in South Africa as it’s a good car for what you pay. It has a few things I’d say it need to improve to make a lasting impression in the local market but Suzuki have shown themselves to more than just a fading new car but something that constantly improved. I expect the next model to be really impressive and having driven the Sport on a launch I can say that I like the baby hot hatch. Suzuki are a growing brand in the county and the Swift is an important part of that.
