Hurricanes vs Chiefs
Hurricanes by 14
After both sides picked up resounding wins last week, the Chiefs are back in New Zealand to face top side the Hurricanes. Travelling to South Africa last week probably won’t do their performance any good, and with Sam Cane a doubt for this weekend and Liam Messam still not eligible, they look a bit short on loose forward options. Their attack was on fire last week, but one must take into account the quality of their opposition.
The Hurricanes will back themselves for a comfortable win, although a lot less one-sided than their shutout win against the Sharks. The Hurricanes will have one eye on next weekend’s final, but that shouldn’t distract them too much from the job at hand this weekend.
Sportsbet odds: Hurricanes 0.57 / Chiefs 1.55
Lions vs Highlanders
Lions by 6
After securing a somewhat controversial win in Canberra last week, the Highlanders are on the road again to South Africa to face the Lions. The South African side secured a solid win against the Crusaders, their high intensity attacking approach keeping the New Zealanders on the back foot for most of the match. The Highlanders are a more composed unit, but will find playing at Ellis Park a bigger challenge than their quarter-final against the Brumbies.
The Lions should win this encounter narrowly, the traveling factor counting heavily in their favour. The Highlanders may be veterans of the playoffs in recent years, but the ask may be too much for them this season.
Sportsbet Odds: Lions 0.72 / Highlanders 1.25
