The Skateboarding for Hope community outreach initiative forms part of a series of events throughout the year that builds up to the Kimberley Diamond Cup skateboarding world championships presented by Kumba Iron Ore, which will be taking place in Kimberley in the Northern Cape in October. The tour will be traveling throughout the country to introduce South African youth to the amazing sport of skateboarding, the fastest growing sport in the country. Tour stops will include Johannesburg, Pretoria, Jeffreys Bay, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, De Aar, Alexandra, Upington, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Cape Town, Nelspruit, George as well as the Northern Cape rural towns of Kuruman, Phillipstown, De Aar, Springbok and Kathu.

According to Tim McFerran of World Skateboarding GP, they are particularly looking forward to the action in Bloemfontein this weekend. “We expect that the level of competition will be extremely high as the Bloem guys will have to go head-to-head with skaters from the Northern Cape and Gauteng. We have been particularly impressed with the increased proficiency of amateur skateboarders in the country and they will undoubtedly be going full throttle to qualify for the world champs. The chance to skate at the amazing Kumba Skate Plaza in Kimberley in the company of some of the top names in the international skateboarding fraternity will definitely be a dream come true for some of these South African youngsters,” mentions McFerran.
