PUMA South Africa hosted the fourth School of Speed athletics meet, at the Durban Athletics Stadium on Saturday 11 February 2017, with the meet’s five outstanding athletes awarded year-long sponsorships from PUMA, boosting their dreams of following in the footsteps of Usain Bolt.
PUMA Sports Marketing Manager Grant Hamilton, accompanied by School of Speed Vice Principal and reigning SA 100m champ Henricho Bruintjies, presented the athletes with medals and awarded these five athletes the sponsorships:
- Zakhiti Nene, 19, U20 400m in 47.11sec

They were among the sprinters, aged 13 to 19, from Durban and surrounds who competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile and relay sprints, cheered by their families and fellow athletes.
“The fourth leg of the PUMA School of Speed series was a great event. It is apparent there are many undiscovered, talented athletes out there with a large appetite for competitive athletics,” said PUMA South Africa Marketing Director Brett Bellinger.
“We enjoyed the day and thank the kids and their parents for turning up. Please join us at the Dal Josafat Stadium in Paarl on 1 March for the next School of Speed, as PUMA continues to unearth the fastest kids in South Africa.”
The national series of School of Speed meets, in partnership with Stillwater Sports, aims to develop athletics talent in South Africa by unearthing the fastest sprinters aged 13 to 19.
