PUMA South Africa hosted the second  School of Speed, at the Green Point Athletics Stadium on Wednesday 18 January 2017. The athletics meet saw five exceptional young sprint stars win sponsorships with the global sports brand, boosting their dreams of following in the foot steps of Usain Bolt.

The five rising stars are (from left to right) Jayson Weber (U18 -200m), Rudzani Ramukhubathi (U16 -200m), Julia Lutz (U20 – 200m),Adrian Swart (U16 – 200m), Juli Vercuiel (U18 – 400m) with School of Speed Vice Principal Henricho Bruintjies.

They were among the sprinters, aged 13 to 19, from Cape Town and surrounds who competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and relay sprints, cheered by their families and fellow athletes.

School of Speed Vice Principal and reigning SA 100m champ Henricho Bruintjies and fellow PUMA ambassador and Youth Olympic gold medalist Gezelle Magermans, were track side to inspire the youngsters and hand out medals.

“The second in the PUMA School of Speed series, and the first visit to Cape Town, was a great occasion to see the kids in full flight and battling it out to take top honours and win PUMA contracts,” said PUMA South Africa Marketing Director Brett Bellinger.

“The Green Point Stadium is a fantastic location and we look forward to coming back. We enjoyed the day and thank the kids and their parents for turning up. Please join us at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodeport on 2 February 2017 for the next School of Speed, as PUMA continues to unearth the fastest kids in South Africa.”

The national series of School of Speed meets, in partnership with Stillwater Sports, aims to develop athletics talent in South Africa by unearthing the fastest sprinters aged 13 to 19.
