  • What is the PUMA School of Speed (SoS)?

An innovative Athletics Series showcasing SA’s talent as a means of identifying up and coming Faster Stars between the ages of 14 and 19.

  • What prizes are up for grabs at SoS?

The top 5 athletes from each meet get a R10 000 PUMA product contract for a year.

Bragging rights for being part of the Fastest event in South Africa.

Cool PUMA Tees for the all finalists in each category.

  • How do I enter?

 Who is the team behind SoS?

PUMA the Forever Faster global sports brand, and the dynamic team at Stillwater Sports who design, organise and market high quality sports events.

  • Where does SoS take place?

LC de Villiers Stadium in Pretoria on Friday 2 December 2016

Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on 18 January 2017

Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort on 1 February 2017

Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Durban on 11 February 2017

  • What events form part of SoS?

The series focuses on track events only, inclusive of 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 Mile and as well as 4 x 100m and Medley Relays.

The 800m, 1 Mile and Medley Relays are by invitation only.

  • Which age groups are available to enter?

U/16 (Ages 14 & 15 only), U/18 (Ages 16 &17 only) and U/20 (Ages 18 & 19 only)

  • Is SoS for school or individual athletes?

Both, you can enter through your school, or if you want to be a part of this and your school does not take part, you can enter as an individual.

  • What is the cost to enter?

Entries through your school are free. Individual entries are R50 each.

  • What are the qualifying criteria?

If you think you are the next Bolt and are between the ages of 14 and 19 you qualify to take part in the track heats.

  • Is SoS officially accredited and will my SoS times count towards provincial and national championship qualification?

Yes, all the meets are endorsed by the Local Athletics Federations and all times count as official qualifications.

  • Can I compete in all the events on the day?

You may only compete in one event and one relay.

Medley relay teams must include at least one athlete from each age group.

A school team may consist of a maximum of 28 athletes per gender (max 56 in total).

  • What time do the meets begin and end (approximately)?

Depending on the number of heats, it will start at around 14h00 in the afternoon.

Finals will start at 18h30 and will finish at 21h22.

  • How do I get to the event?

Your own transport by way of bus, car or bicycle.

  • Will I be able to buy food and beverages at the event?

Yes, there will be accredited food and drink vendors at all the events.

  • Is there a Safe Bag area for me to use as a locker at the event?

No. We suggest you don’t bring anything of value to the meet. You are solely responsible for your belongings.

  • Can my family & friends come along to support me?

Yes, family and friends are encouraged to come and support you.

Spectator entry tickets will be on sale at R20 per person at each venue on the day of the meet.

Kids in school uniform and those under 6 are free.

  • Will the SoS meets be broadcast live?

The series will be live streamed via the School of Speed website courtesy of Backtrack.
