In November last year, South Africa’s motoring public crowned the Ford Ranger Double Cab as overall winner in the Standard Bank People’s Wheels Awards 2014 – the model which recorded the most votes of all to earn the title People’s Choice. Since then, the Ford Ranger has enjoyed significant success in the market in terms of vehicle sales.
According to an announcement by the Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa earlier this month, Ranger sales volumes have increased by 38.3% over last year. The company has attributed this success to the inclusion of more competitive and compelling products, superb performance and efficiency, extremely competitive pricing and overall value for money.
“In line with our expectations for 2015, the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa’s (NAAMSA) July 2015 sales results confirmed that passenger vehicle sales continue to be under pressure, with a decrease of 8.8% compared to the same period last year. The success of the Ford Ranger, subsequent to its victory in the People’s Wheels Awards is therefore commendable considering current market trends,” says Nicholas Nkosi, Head of Vehicle and Asset Finance – Retail Banking at Standard Bank.
In the NAAMSA July 2015 sales report, Ford came in third in the overall top sellers for the month. However, general sales are still under pressure with a 2.5% decline in the total number of vehicles sold in the first seven months of the year in comparison to 2014 figures.
