South African fans of British connoisseur brand MG have something to look forward to at the upcoming Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) in October – a sneak preview of the new MG3 only to be launched in its home country next month.
The new MG3, which is expected in South Africa before the end of the year, boasts unique design features such as its signature front LED daytime running lights and a wrap-around front windscreen. Hidden from the sporty exterior styling is a spacious. Multiple airbags and a host of mechanical and electronic safety features offer some of the latest safety technology as standard equipment.
South African MG Chief Operating Officer Craig Lanham-Love says the new MG3 offers buyers something really new. “It is a stylish, highly practical car that is huge fun to drive and fun to own.”
Still to be launched to the UK market (September 2013), four models will be available to choose from, with a full range of options and accessories. Specifications and options for the South African market will be announced at the Johannesburg International Motor Show in October, with pricing expected to be announced closer to launch in the last quarter of the year.
The four models are the flagship MG3 3STYLE, the mid-range MG3 3FORM and MG3 3FORM SPORT, as well as the entry model MG3 3TIME. Details of the local line-up for the South African market will be announced closer to launch.
All models are powered by a DOHC VTi-TECH petrol engine with a 5-speed manual. The 1.5-litre engine delivers 78kW at 6 000rpm and 137Nm of torque at 4 750rpm. Acceleration from 0 – 100km/h is expected to be around 10 seconds, reaching a top speed in excess of 175km/h.
The new range of models to be launched in South Africa will be on show at the JIMS from 18 to 27 October 2013.
