King Price Irene Farm Race Winners

The king crowned the cream of the running crop in the second annual King Price Irene Farm Race on Saturday, 29 October 2016, and spread some royal fun along the streets of Southdowns, Pretoria with over 4200 runners lacing up for the race.

The third and final leg of the 2016 Irene Triple Challenge (ITC), hosted by King Price Insurance in collaboration with Irene Athletics Club started and finished at the Agricultural Research Council in Irene.

Derocious Makhobalo won the men’s super-serious 21km King Price Irene Farm race, crossing the finish line in 70.16 minutes on Saturday, 29 October 2016, with Vuyokazi Gebe winning the 21km women’s race in a time of in 89.21 minutes.

Jeffrey Gwebe led the 10km men’s race with a finish time of 31.29 minutes, and the 10km women’s race winner, Carlyn Fischer, completed the race in a time of 40.41 minutes.

And although a gold medal is nice, the King Price Irene Farm Race is more than a run. True to tradition it was an entire family-fun day including fully supervised kiddies entertainment, food stalls and distances including the 21km, leisurely 10km, 5km full-on fun run and a kids’ 1km under the reign of the King Price mascot.

Dusting off her royal robes awarded Elize van Niekerk the highest honour, in the dress-like a king competition, taking the crown and the R5000 cash prize in celebration of her majestic presence.
