For 2014, the Jeep Grand Cherokee receives an updated style with a seven-slot grille that is shorter in height with slimmer headlights and a lower front fascia that has been slightly elevated.

The new high-intensity discharge bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRL) are offered as standard on all trim levels while the SRT model features adaptive HID bi-xenon headlights with LED lighting.

The rear of the new Grand Cherokee also boasts new, larger tail lights with LED lighting, a larger rear spoiler, new bumpers and a re-sculpted tailgate. Dual exhaust tips are now standard on both Limited and Overland models.

On the inside, the 2014 Grand Cherokee’s revised centre stack features a new UConnect 8.4″ touch-screen, that can be operated via the satellite steering-wheel controls, and a new leather-wrapped electronic shifter for the eight-speed transmission. All trim levels come with paddle gear shifters mounted on the back of the steering wheel as standard.

On the 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT, the new Uconnect system features SRT-exclusive Performance Pages, a distinctive functionality specific to racing technology. Performance Pages provides the drivers instant feedback on steering input measurements, power, torque, 0-100km/h time, 100-0km/h braking distance and more.

Grand Cherokee 4×4

The new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a choice of 4×4 systems: Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II with rear Electronic Limited-slip Differential (ELSD) and the exclusive-to-SRT, Quadra-Trac active on-demand four-wheel-drive system, also featuring rear Electronic Limited Slip Differential (ELSD).

The standard Quadra-Lift air suspension system allows the ride height of the Grand Cherokee to change up to a maximum ground clearance of 280mm.

The Selec-Terrain traction management system with five different driving programmes has been refined on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Standard on all Grand Cherokee models except SRT, this system has been enhanced through the introduction of the new Selec-Speed Control, which allows the driver to control the speed of the vehicle, both uphill and downhill, using the steering wheel paddle shifters instead of requiring the use of the accelerator or brake pedals.

Through the Selec-Terrain system  the driver can choose between Sand, mud, Auto, Snow and Rock driving programmes to achieve the best driving experience on all terrains.

Fitted only on the Grand Cherokee SRT model is a retuned Selec-Track system. Drivers can manually choose between the following dynamic modes: Auto, Sport, Tow, Track, and Snow – for specific driving performances.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is powered by three petrol engine options: the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, the 5.7-litre V8 and the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine that powers the SRT model.

The 3.0-litre turbo, direct-injection V6 Common-rail diesel engine will be available at a later date.

The Grand Cherokee’s new eight-speed automatic transmission is paired with all engine variants and offers a new launch control system exclusively on the SRT model.

The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine delivers 210kW of power at 6 350rpm and 347Nm of torque at 4 300rpm, providing claimed fuel economy of 10.4 litres/100km on the combined cycle.

In addition to the V6 petrol engine, Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with the 5.7-litre Multi-displacement System (MDS) V8 engine. This V8 engine delivers 259kW at 5 200rpm and 520Nm of torque at 4 200rpm while claiming fuel efficiency of 13.0 litres/100km on the combined cycle.

The engine’s fuel-saving MDS alternates between four-cylinder mode, when less power is needed, and V8 mode when more power is in demand.

The 5.7-litre V8 engine also allows the Jeep Grand Cherokee a trailer tow capability of up to 3 500 kg.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is powered by the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine fitted with Fuel Saver Technology that also alternates between four- and eight-cylinder modes. The 6.4-litre HEMI engine delivers 344kW at 6 250rpm and 624Nm of torque at 4 100rpm. This results in claimed performance of 0-100km/h in 5 seconds and top speed of 257km/h.

New Eco Mode

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features the new Eco Mode that contributes to its improved fuel economy. Eco Mode optimizes the Grand Cherokee transmission’s shift schedule as well as throttle sensitivity to maximize fuel economy.

In addition to its standard safety equipment, including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Electronic Rollover Mitigation (ERM), ABS with off-road calibration, Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) and 7 airbags (front seats multistage, sidebags, side-curtain front and rear, driver kneebag), the new 2014 model offers upgraded Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop functionality (available later this year), ParkView rear back up camera with dynamic grid and new Selec-Speed Control with Hill-Ascent Control and Hill-Descent Control, assisting the drivers when climbing and ascending steep gradients.
