Liam Hermanus delivered a remarkable eight-goal performance, supported by a brace from captain <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Dalpiarro<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Langford and further goals from JP <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Britz<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, Travis <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Krumples<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, Michael Horan and Marvin Simons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">They followed that up with a 7\u20132 victory over WP Peninsula. After a tight first half, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Britz<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> struck a third-quarter hat-trick to take control of the contest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">WP Peninsula had earlier secured what could prove a pivotal 2\u20131 win over <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Northerns<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Blues, Dean Carrick and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Corben<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">O\u2019Ryan<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> scoring either side of Michael Kendall\u2019s equaliser.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">Northerns<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Blues responded strongly later in the day, defeating <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Northerns<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Daisies 9\u20131, with Jordan Calitz netting a hat-trick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Western Province Show Championship Character<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">In Pool B, KZN Raiders delighted the home crowd with a 6\u20133 win over SG <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Witsies<\/span><span class=\"s4\">after racing into an early three-goal lead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">Western Province, the 2024 champions, were equally impressive in their opening fixture, dispatching KZN <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Mynahs<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> 8\u20131. Hans Neethling scored four goals, with Idrees Abdulla adding a brace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">However, the match of the day came later when Western Province staged a remarkable comeback against SG <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Witsies<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. Trailing 4\u20130 early on, WP clawed their way back through Brett Horn, Ryan Julius and Kyle Esau before Neethling completed the turnaround with the decisive goal in the final four minutes to seal a dramatic 5\u20134 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">In the final men\u2019s A Section fixture of the day, KZN Raiders secured a hard-fought 3\u20132 victory over KZN <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Mynahs<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> in an intense all-KZN encounter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">A disciplined first half saw both sides locked at 0\u20130, with defensive structures dominating proceedings. The Raiders broke the deadlock in the third quarter as Daniel Freese, Dan den Bakker and Keegan <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Hezlett<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> struck in quick succession to establish a commanding 3\u20130 lead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">The <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Mynahs<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> refused to fade, with Praise <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Mgenge<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> scoring twice to set up a tense finale. Despite late pressure, the Raiders held firm to claim the three points and round off a strong opening day in front of their home supporters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">WOMEN \u2013 A SECTION<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Champions and Contenders Lay Down Markers<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">In Pool A, defending champions Western Province secured a comfortable 5\u20131 win over WP Peninsula. National captain Jamie Southgate led from the front, while <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Malikah<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Hamza netted twice in a strong second-half display.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">KZN Raiders overcame an early scare against KZN Inland to win 6\u20131.
