With semi-final berths on the line and status-defining matches underway, the penultimate day of the SA Hockey IPT brought relentless action, shootout drama, and heartbreak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Header Image Credit Jan van Zyl<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Men\u2019s A Section<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">5\u20138 Playoffs (A Section Status on the Line)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">KZN Raiders 10\u20130 Free State<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">The Raiders roared to safety in devastating fashion. Tyler <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Tomsett<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> notched a hat-trick, Dylan Ferreira added two, and five others joined the party<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Ayakha<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Mthalane<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, Darryl Lotter, Keegan <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Hezlett<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, and a double from Slater <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Capell<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> in a record-breaking romp that consigned Free State to relegation danger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Northern Blues 2\u20131 Eastern Province<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">It wasn\u2019t pretty, but it was enough. The Northern Blues clung on to their A Section place with a gritty win over a spirited EP side. Taine Tanner-Ellis scored early, but EP\u2019s Jose Smith hit back before CJ <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Mashele<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> struck the match-winner in the 12th minute. The rest of the game was a tense stalemate as the Blues survived a major scare.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Semi-Finals<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Western Province 4\u20130 SA Under 21<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">The defending champions saw their dream end as hosts WP turned on the style. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Viwe<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Mbata<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> opened the scoring in the first half, before a third-quarter blitz<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">two from Mustapha Cassiem and one from Jacques van Tonder<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">secured a dominant win and booked WP a place in Friday\u2019s final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">WP Peninsula 0\u20130 Southern Gauteng (Pens win shootout)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">A tense and tactical semi-final saw neither side give an inch. Despite multiple half-chances, the deadlock couldn\u2019t be broken in regulation. In the shootout, WP Pens held their nerve, and Kenton Melville struck the decisive blow to send the <\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s5\">B<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> team into the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">A Section final<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">a massive upset and a <\/span><span class=\"s5\">fairytale<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> story.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Women\u2019s A Section<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">5\u20138 Playoffs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">North West 6\u20130 KZN Raiders<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">North West responded to their semi-final heartbreak in ruthless fashion. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Tamlyn<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Kock <\/span><span class=\"s5\">and <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Arisha<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> van Niekerk each grabbed a brace, while <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Germarie<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Spershott<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> and Michelle Claassen added gloss to a dominant win that keeps them in the A Section for 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Free State 2\u20134 WP Peninsula<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">This end-to-end clash saw WP Pens survive and advance. Free State took the lead through <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Johanca<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Burger, but the Cape side stormed back with goals from Michaela <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Grainey<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Nihaad<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Sulaiman<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, and Lilian Pope. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Iziah<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> April pulled one back, but Isabella Booyens sealed the result, confirming Pens&#8217; A Section survival.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Semi-Finals<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">SA U21 1\u20131 Southern Gauteng (<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Southerns<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> win shootout)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">In a classic youth-versus-experience battle, Hannah Pearce\u2019s early strike had <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Southerns<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> ahead. The U21s pressed relentlessly and finally found a way through via Paris-Gail Isaacs with five minutes remaining. But in the shootout, goalkeeper Morgan de Jager rose to the occasion, saving three to send the <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Johannesburgers<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> to the final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Northern Blues 2\u20133 Western Province<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Cerian Fourie gave <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Northerns<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> a dream start, but WP responded with clinical corner conversions. Daniella de Oliveira and Brady Wiseman turned the game around before de Oliveira added a second. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Northerns<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> pulled one back through Lerato <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Mahole<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, but it wasn\u2019t enough as the hosts edged through to the final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s5\">The stage is set. On Friday, Western Province will contest both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s finals on home turf. The women face Southern Gauteng in a heavyweight showdown, while the men\u2019s final sees WP face a <\/span><span class=\"s5\">fairytale<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> challenge from their own B team<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">WP Peninsula.
