It was do-or-die Thursday at <\/span>Hartleyvale<\/span> as the race for titles, promotion, and A Section survival reached boiling point. With semi-final berths on the line and status-defining matches underway, the penultimate day of the SA Hockey IPT brought relentless action, shootout drama, and heartbreak.<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s A Section<\/span><\/h3>\n

5\u20138 Playoffs (A Section Status on the Line)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

KZN Raiders 10\u20130 Free State<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>The Raiders roared to safety in devastating fashion. Tyler <\/span>Tomsett<\/span> notched a hat-trick, Dylan Ferreira added two, and five others joined the party<\/span>, <\/span>Ayakha<\/span> Mthalane<\/span>, Darryl Lotter, Keegan <\/span>Hezlett<\/span>, and a double from Slater <\/span>Capell<\/span> in a record-breaking romp that consigned Free State to relegation danger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Northern Blues 2\u20131 Eastern Province<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>It wasn\u2019t pretty, but it was enough. The Northern Blues clung on to their A Section place with a gritty win over a spirited EP side. Taine Tanner-Ellis scored early, but EP\u2019s Jose Smith hit back before CJ <\/span>Mashele<\/span> struck the match-winner in the 12th minute. The rest of the game was a tense stalemate as the Blues survived a major scare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Semi-Finals<\/span><\/h3>\n

Western Province 4\u20130 SA Under 21<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>The defending champions saw their dream end as hosts WP turned on the style. <\/span>Viwe<\/span>Mbata<\/span> opened the scoring in the first half, before a third-quarter blitz<\/span>, <\/span>two from Mustapha Cassiem and one from Jacques van Tonder<\/span>, <\/span>secured a dominant win and booked WP a place in Friday\u2019s final.<\/span><\/p>\n

WP Peninsula 0\u20130 Southern Gauteng (Pens win shootout)<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>A tense and tactical semi-final saw neither side give an inch. Despite multiple half-chances, the deadlock couldn\u2019t be broken in regulation. In the shootout, WP Pens held their nerve, and Kenton Melville struck the decisive blow to send the <\/span>\u201c<\/span>B<\/span>\u201d<\/span> team into the <\/span>A Section final<\/span>, <\/span>a massive upset and a <\/span>fairytale<\/span> story.<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s A Section<\/span><\/h3>\n

5\u20138 Playoffs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

North West 6\u20130 KZN Raiders<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>North West responded to their semi-final heartbreak in ruthless fashion. <\/span>Tamlyn<\/span> Kock <\/span>and <\/span>Arisha<\/span> van Niekerk each grabbed a brace, while <\/span>Germarie<\/span> Spershott<\/span> and Michelle Claassen added gloss to a dominant win that keeps them in the A Section for 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

Free State 2\u20134 WP Peninsula<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>This end-to-end clash saw WP Pens survive and advance. Free State took the lead through <\/span>Johanca<\/span> Burger, but the Cape side stormed back with goals from Michaela <\/span>Grainey<\/span>, <\/span>Nihaad<\/span> Sulaiman<\/span>, and Lilian Pope. <\/span>Iziah<\/span> April pulled one back, but Isabella Booyens sealed the result, confirming Pens’ A Section survival.<\/span><\/p>\n

Semi-Finals<\/span><\/h3>\n

SA U21 1\u20131 Southern Gauteng (<\/span>Southerns<\/span> win shootout)<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>In a classic youth-versus-experience battle, Hannah Pearce\u2019s early strike had <\/span>Southerns<\/span> ahead. The U21s pressed relentlessly and finally found a way through via Paris-Gail Isaacs with five minutes remaining. But in the shootout, goalkeeper Morgan de Jager rose to the occasion, saving three to send the <\/span>Johannesburgers<\/span> to the final.<\/span><\/p>\n

Northern Blues 2\u20133 Western Province<\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>Cerian Fourie gave <\/span>Northerns<\/span> a dream start, but WP responded with clinical corner conversions. Daniella de Oliveira and Brady Wiseman turned the game around before de Oliveira added a second. <\/span>Northerns<\/span> pulled one back through Lerato <\/span>Mahole<\/span>, but it wasn\u2019t enough as the hosts edged through to the final.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stage is set. On Friday, Western Province will contest both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s finals on home turf. The women face Southern Gauteng in a heavyweight showdown, while the men\u2019s final sees WP face a <\/span>fairytale<\/span> challenge from their own B team<\/span>, <\/span>WP Peninsula. The drama\u2019s not done yet.<\/span><\/p>\n
