With the newly resurfaced Belgotex Sport pitches gleaming under the Cape Town skies, both the Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s tournaments got underway with purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Header Image: Photos &#8211; Credit &#8211; Jan van Zyl<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Men\u2019s A Section<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">SA U21 3\u20130 Free State<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">The defending champions, SA Under 21, opened their account with a professional 3-0 win over Free State. It wasn\u2019t their most fluid performance, but a clean sheet and three goals will settle the nerves. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Litha<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Kraai found the net early with a composed field goal, Reuben <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Sendzul<\/span><span class=\"s5\">showed his finishing class, and Dudley Horn added late insurance to round off a solid start.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Northern Blues 0\u20134 WP Peninsula<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">In what many would label an early shock, WP Peninsula (Western Province B) stunned the Northern Blues with a commanding display. Caleb Oliphant pounced on a loose ball for the opener, Kenton Melville added a second before halftime, and Josh <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Koff<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> extended the lead. Nicholas Giger slotted a penalty stroke to complete a dominant 4-0 performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Southern Gauteng 5\u20130 Eastern Province<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Last year\u2019s runners-up Southern Gauteng looked razor-sharp from the whistle. Liam Hermanus scored twice in the opening 20 minutes to take control. Michael Newland-Nel added a third, Marvin Simons got in on the action, and the legendary Julian <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Hykes<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">now player-coach<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">put the exclamation mark on a powerful 5-0 win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Western Province 6\u20131 KZN Raiders<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">After conceding early to Darryl Lotter and facing a potential upset, WP roared back with a vengeance. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Luthando<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Jonas equalised before halftime and added another after the break. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Viwe<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Mbata<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> and Jacques van Tonder piled on, before Mustapha Cassiem scored twice to wrap up an emphatic 6-1 comeback win for the hosts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Women\u2019s A Section<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">SA U21 1\u20133 North West<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">North West got off to a dream start with Emily Wilson striking early, and her twin sister <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Charne<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> de Wet doubling the advantage. Although <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Teshawn<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> de le Rey pulled one back for the juniors, the result was sealed late on by <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Lize<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Claassens<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> as North West started strong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Northern Blues 4\u20130 WP Peninsula<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">The defending champs had to be patient. After <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Hanrie<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Louw opened the scoring, WP Peninsula made them work hard for the rest. It wasn\u2019t until the second half that they pulled away through Olivia Dillion, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Maikimisetso<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Marokoane<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, and another from Louw to secure a confident 4-0 win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Southern Gauteng 6\u20131 KZN Raiders<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Southern Gauteng wasted no time hitting their stride. Sylvia van <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Jaarsveldt<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> scored twice in the opening half, joined by goals from Gabriella Terblanche and <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Unathi<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Magudulela for a 4-0 lead at the break. Amber <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Fairon<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> and Bianca Wood added further polish, with Jessica Fletcher grabbing a consolation for the Raiders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Western Province 9\u20130 Free State<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">In the most one-sided game of the day, WP flexed their muscles with a nine-goal blitz. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Kaps<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, De Waal, Maddocks, Wiseman, Botha, Bobbs\u2014everyone got in on the action. With a relentless attack, WP made a clear statement of intent as tournament favourites.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Women\u2019s B Section<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Eastern Province 7\u20130 Mpumalanga<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">EP wasted no time in staking their claim for promotion. Bianca de Klerk and Toni Marks both struck twice, with further goals from Elan van <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Vugt<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Tasmyn<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Preller, and Tristan Howard rounding out a commanding win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Eastern Province 2\u20131 WP <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Disa<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s5\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s5\">In the second match of their double-header, EP had to dig deeper. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Disa<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> took the lead through <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Trusten<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Barnard, but Marks equalised before <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Tasmyn<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Preller blasted home the winner to cap off a perfect Day 1 for the Eastern Cape side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s5\">With Day 1 complete, the tone has been set in Cape Town.
