Bainskloof Pass was at its supreme best and in all its Spring glory providing our riders 91kms of challenging excitement, which favoured the “Roadies” offering a great climb and a chance to push each other our day 2 road stage.
Riders left Welbedacht Wine Estate, Schalk Burger and Sons in Wellington to head over Bainskloof – then return with the opportunity to be crowned the Stellenbrau King of the Mountain on the climb back up to the peak.
Team Giant – Chris Cronje and David Garrett strategically took the lead winning the Men’s Duo Category, Silverback’s Marthinus Kruger & Yolande de Villiers retained their lead in the mixed duo. CeresCycles ladies duo, Lehane Oosthuizen & Leorine de Wet and Linus van Oneselen & Chris Brand, the Golden Oldies team in Masters Duo are top of their log. Morné van Greunen walk away with the day 2 Solo Champion of Champions win.
Chris Cronje from team Giant won the Stellenbrau King of the Mountain Jersey & Prize money. There will be another King of the Mountain title up for grabs as riders cycle Welvanpas tomorrow.
All eyes will be on Breedenet’s dynamic duo – Charl-Pierre Estehuyse & Robert Hobson to see if they can close the gap at the top of the GC in 50km of single track racing which favours their riding style on stage 4 of the Cape Duo Challenge and chase for the top spot.
