Head2Head challenge round 21

Run Ride Dive Home

We’re back after the holidays and a well deserved break.

We’ve invited a few ex-players to play but they’re struggling with the format so this round it’s just me and Dirk and next round we’ll have a brand new ex pro to challenge us.

Dirk: Aston Villa 1 – 2 Crystal Palace

Even after the Chelsea result, Palace are looking good and strong. Villa have improved in recent weeks but definitely not enough to beat this Palace side.

Marcel: Villa 0 – 1 Crystal Palace

Villa are in big trouble. Rooted to the bottom of the table and things not looking likely to change only spell disaster. I like Palace but in recent weeks they are showing a bit of weariness. I should probably go for a draw here but Palace could score, Villa won’t.

RESULT: Villa 1 – 0 Crystal Palace

Dirk: Swansea 1 – 1 Sunderland

Both teams need to make some telling deals this transfer window. Sunderland had an excellent result in the last round but I think this will patter out to be a draw.

Marcel: Swansea 0 – 0 Sunderland

Where to start? These teams are both having shocking seasons. A win could lift Sunderland above Newcastle but still in the relegation zone. Swansea start just one place clear of the relegation zone and probably don’t deserve to escape the drop on current form.

RESULT: Swansea 2 – 4 Sunderland

Dirk: Bournemouth 1 – 2 West Ham

Injury ravaged West Ham will still have enough to beat an entertaining but lacking Bournemouth. Carroll is looking near his best and that should be enough to see the Hammers come through with a win.

Marcel: Bournemouth 1 – 2 West Ham

Bournemouth have beaten Chelsea, Man Utd and West Brom before coming crashing down to earth with draws and a defeat to Arsenal. West Ham are getting the stars of their early season form back and should see off Bournemouth even if they have to play Andy Carroll.

RESULT: Bouurnemouth 1 – 3 West Ham

Dirk: Liverpool 2 – 2 Arsenal

Liverpool seem to save their best for the bigger sides and I can see this being a classic. Arsenal have looked good on their title challenge and a point here could be valuable.

Marcel: Liverpool 1 – 2 Arsenal

Anfield is never an easy place to visit but the early success of the Klopp era is proving hard to maintain and therefore, Arsenal, with their exceptional pace, will give the Reds a lot to think about. Probably the most watchable fixture of the round.

RESULT: Liverpool 3 – 3 Arsenal

Dirk: Chelsea 2 – 1 West Brom

Guus will make sure that this Chelsea side perform like they should and do the job against West Brom.

Marcel: Chelsea 2 – 0 West Brom

The “special” one out the door. The dressing room apparently settled and happy again, the goals are returning to Stamford Bridge. Pulis is great but the likes of Willian should pull his side apart.

RESULT: Chelsea 2 – 2 West Brom

Dirk: Newcastle 1 – 1 Man. United

Untied may have finally won, scored twice and even Rooney played decently – but is it just a flash in the pan before it returns to what we’ve seen so many times before this season? I can see this being an awkward and quite boring draw.

Marcel: Newcastle 0 – 2 United

So, we’re still desperately unhappy with the way LVG sets his teams up and even more unhappy with the lack of goals we score but there’s a noticeable shift in the way Utd are playing since the boo-boys brought their A-game to Old Trafford. Basically, Newcastle are terrible and United are improving.

RESULT: Newcastle 3 – 3 United

Dirk: Southampton 1 – 2 Watford

The Saints aren’t quite clicking at the moment and with Mane having some time issues, it’s a good time for Watford to be facing them. Watford are showing surprising consistency from a team just promoted, and I can see them taking the form on into this game and coming away with a good victory.

Marcel: Southampton 0 – 1 Watford

There’s talk of Mane leaving the Saints. Watford are good value for money for any spectators and this will be no different. Deeney and Ighalo to run amok but the score will be respectable.

RESULT: Southampton 2 – 0 Watford

Dirk: Stoke City 2 – 0 Norwich

Stoke been fantastic to watch lately, and expect more of the same today.

Marcel: Stoke 2 – 1 Norwich

Both have beaten Manchester United in recent weeks but Stoke have beaten City too which gives an idea of their potential. Norwich are plucky but Stoke should have the 3 points.

RESULT: Stoke 3 – 1 Norwich

Dirk: Man. City 3 – 1 Everton

Everton have been a bogey team for City in recent years. The Watford win could well be the result that propels City back into form, and can see them producing something significant at home against Everton.

Marcel: Man City 1 – 0 Everton

Everton sit in 11th place with only one win in the last 6 matches, against Newcastle. Not much to shout about then. City are wobbly without Kompany but have an abundance of talent going forward. Definitely a City win.

RESULT: Everton 0 – 0 Man City

Dirk: Tottenham 2 – 1 Leicester City

Spurs have been in great form lately and I’m not sure the Foxes will be the same with Vardy. Good game but Spurs to edge it, and stay in the title hunt.

Marcel: Spurs 2 – 1 Leicester City

Vardy and co haven’t scored in a few matches, so that run has to end but they not looking like scoring at the moment either while Spurs are looking top 3 favourites.

RESULT: Spurs 0 – 1 Leicester

A round of upsets ends with Dirk winning 4-2.
