Points, Combative and Best Team prizes won by Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka
The Tour of Oman reached its conclusion today with a sprint finish deciding the final stage in Matrah Corniche. Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) won the final stage, beating Zico Waeytens (Giant-Alpecin) into 2nd and Soren Kragh Andersen (Giant-Alpecin) was 3rd. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) won the Tour of Oman overall.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka brought the week to a close with Edvald Boasson Hagen finishing 9th on today’s final stage. The sprint finale unfolded just after an early break of 6 riders were caught, this was thanks to Katusha and Astana controlling the time gap for the duration of the stage.
It was our African Team’s goal to deliver Boasson Hagen to the line today. With the green points jersey on his shoulders, Boasson Hagen was in the mix right up until the final few meters of the stage. Katusha, as they have shown in recent weeks, performed another a good leadout for Kristoff to take the victory. With our Norwegian champion placing inside the top 10, and thanks to his 2 stage wins earlier in the week, he had secured enough points to ensure he won the green points jersey classification overall.
The culmination of the final stage also confirmed further success for our African Team as Jacques Janse van Rensburg won the most combative polka dot jersey, which he pulled on after yesterday’s heroic breakaway. In the general classification, Boasson Hagen and Merhawi Kudus finished in 6th and 9th place respectively. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka also rode away as winners of the best team classification, highlighting the terrific week our team had overall.
