Make the most of the amazing summer season in the Cape Winelands and venture out to the Dirtopia Trail Centre on Delvera farm, which forms part of the Simonsberg Conservancy and offers a variety of outdoor activities for young and old.
November kicks off with two Falke Full Moon Hikes on Friday, 3 November when the sun sets at 19h14 and the moon rises at 18h29 and Saturday, 4 November with the sun setting at 19h15 and the moon rising at 19h37.
The 9.75km Delvera Vineyard Trail meanders through vineyards and a majestic Yellow Wood forest to summit Klapmutskop at 523m with panoramic views of the Winelands and Cape Town – and of course spectacular sunsets and moon rises. Starting from the Dirtopia Trail Centre, it will take approximately 2.5 hours to reach the top, which is why hikers should ideally depart between 17h00 and 18h00. Farm vehicles are available to transport children and elderly hikers to the start of the shorter 4,5km route.
The cost for the Falke Full Moon Hikes at Delvera is R100 for adults and R50 for children under the age of 10 and includes shuttles, permits and a map. Unfortunately no dogs allowed. Torches are needed for walking down (also for sale at Trail Centre) and something warm to wear. Picnics for the Falke Full Moon Hikes can be booked at least two days before the event date, but you are also welcome to pack your own or enjoy a light meal at the Dirtopia Café on your return to the trail centre.
If you’re keen on spending time outdoors while socialising with friends, the popular Wine Walk on Saturday, 5 November morning from Delvera to Warwick should be on your list. Coffee and a breakfast snack will be served at registration at Dirtopia Café from 08h00 with the 6km walk starting at 09h00. On arrival at Warwick walkers get to taste four wines (kids will receive juice) before returning to Dirtopia Café for lunch. Bring good walking shoes, backpack with water, hat, snack (if you like), jacket and of course water bottle. This is a relaxed event with loads of time to enjoy the vineyards, wineland scenery and Stellenbosch outdoors! Bookings close on Friday, 4 November at 12h00. The cost is R225 per person (R150 for under 18’s) and includes food, wine, coffee, permit and marked route.
Don’t miss out on the upcoming Dirtopia Sunday Sunset Concerts. On Sunday, 18 November one of South Africa’s best-know blues musicians – Gerald Clark, will be launching his new Afrocoustic album. Doors open at 17h00 with the show starting at 19h00. Cost is R70 per person, while kids younger than 12 years attend free of charge. Kids can enjoy an array of outdoor play activities, while tasty treats will be on order from the newly launched summer menu at Dirtopia Café.
