Two Oceans Marathon defending champion Caroline Wostmann is back for a treble after winning the ultra-marathon in 2015 and 2016.
Having started her running career after the birth of her first child in 2009, the adidas sponsored athlete has improved her running year-on-year, winning multiple marathons to become South Africa’s ultra-marathon queen, fulfilling a dream she’s had since she was 6 years old.
Wostmann has proven that even with a late start anyone can rise to the top, through sheer determination and drive. Citing consistency and discipline as key to getting to championship level, she recognizes a variety of training methods is needed to make sure you’ll be at your best when running ultra-marathons.
She has learned many valuable lessons from running ultra-marathons, but most importantly that one’s mind is their biggest asset when running an ultra.
“Running ultra-marathons isn’t about being the fastest runner but believing in yourself and through a willingness to endure and get through the temporary struggle, you come out a tougher, stronger, better person on the other side of the finish line” she said.
“It also helps to have the best shoes and tracker with you. My adidas adizero shoes make it a lot more comfortable to run long distances and my Garmin makes sure I’m on track with my times and stick to the plan.”
Wostmann is determined to retain her title as the marathon’s champion and enjoys running along the most beautiful marathon route. “I’m looking forward to putting my best foot forward for an aim at a third win. I’ve trained as much as I can and ready to give my all. I absolutely enjoy this marathon especially because of how beautiful the route is.” said Wostmann.
Caroline Wostmann will be running the OMTOM on Saturday 15 April in Cape Town.
