It’s coming – the perfect storm is heading at full velocity towards Durban’s mean streets, courtesy of Bridgestone Production Cars.
Mid-June sees the fastest production cars in the country take to a new and improved Durban street circuit as part of the Top Gear Festival, and the best tin-top pilots in the country aim to put on a show that meets or beats what Messrs May, Hammond and Clarkson have to offer…
South Africa’s premier motor racing series will be supported by the Cape Town-based V8 Masters series, Lotus 7 Register and the Porsche GT3 Challenge, for all the makings of an action-packed weekend.
Says Bridgestone Production Car frontrunner Melvill Priest: “Racing on a street circuit gives you a special buzz: it is a challenge like no other and you’ve got to be so precise if you’re going to be fast but safe. It also makes a nice change in terms of the crowd, and the atmosphere is very different from a conventional track – I can’t wait to get out there in my Mueller Sports Audi S4!”
And local star Shaun Duminy agrees: “I love racing here. Not only is it my home track but it focusses the senses like no other circuit in the country. Sure, it’s unforgiving, but the sport isn’t about letting the guy who makes the most mistakes win! I’m really looking forward to performing in front of a KZN crowd. It is also going to be the first time Ford Racing has been here with the new Ford Focus ST Ecoboost, so that’s another good reason to come and see us in action!”
Don’t miss the fifth round of the Bridgestone Production Car championship on June 15 and 16…real racers, real racing, real streets…on road tyres!
