Giordano Lupini (Monroe Racing Driver):
Yesterday was a tough one for the entire field especially after the incident in the opening race. That’s unfortunately the harsh reality of motorsport sometimes and why it’s so crucial to be alert in any situation. As far as we’re informed all the drivers involved will be making a recovery, something we’re all very thankful for.
Throughout the course of the day we struggled with technical problem which compromised our grip and of course this had an impact on our pace as well. Still when we compare my times during this weekend with what I did last year on my debut – we’ve come a very long way already. We would’ve liked to see the true reflection of where we are compared to the rest of the field, but this only serves as more motivation to come back fighting hard at the next round.
I’d like to thank my team, our sponsors and pit-lane neighbor Ebrahim Levy for all the effort that went into this weekend. A special thanks to my dad Michele for everything today. And last but certainly not least: My mother Carol for fanatical support today.
Reynard Gelderblom on behalf of Monroe Racing South Africa:
Let me start off right away with Giordano. It’s an absolute pleasure to have such level-headed and mature young man in our team. He had the mechanical problem, the incident in the first race and some fierce competition thrown at him yesterday and throughout everything he remained calm and focused.
This weekend was the end result of months of hard work behind-the-scenes. The support and input that we’ve received from our sponsors has really been extraordinary and we’d like to thank you for the faith that you’ve put into our entire operation. This weekend saw us competing at two circuits on opposite ends of the country and without you this wouldn’t have been possible.
We’re pretty content with our performance this weekend. The problems we had were really small and will be fixed soon. At the end of the day we kept our nose clean on the track and completed the full distance. This was a weekend with many positives and lots we can forward. Special thanks to Ludwig Racing for usual high standards in preparing our car. We’d also like to thank Ebrahim Levy for taking Giordano under his wing. There’s more to come from our partnership with him which we will report back on at later stage.
Thank you to the Bold Marine GTi Challenge field for the support we’ve received from all of you as well. It’s a competitive series with many of Cape Town’s biggest talents on the grid. Our congratulations also goes out to Roelof Tolman for going down on one knee in turn 1 and asking his fiance Cherene to marry him – certainly one of the highlights of the day.
Last but not least thank you to the fans for support as well as the drag-section marshals for your continued support during the day.
Michele Lupini on behalf of AutoNews Scuderia Lupini:
That was a challenging but somehow quite rewarding day at the races – Giordano drove a very good race despite dealing with a few issues. The first race was canned after a monster crash leaving us to race one double-points 12-lapper.
Typically after three weeks of faultless running, the car tested us at every opportunity, but that’s racing – most important is in spite of that he’s eliminated two-thirds of the gap to the front of the class.
Now to get on with what we’re here for – progress! Well done G and huge thanks to all our backers and supporters – see you in a month!
Special thanks to Reynard Gelderblom the most enthusiastic man at Killarney and Carol for all the support!
