Nissan SA partners with Clare Vale for 8th annual Cheetah Karting Day at Zwartkops Kart Circuit

The Zwartkops Kart Circuit is set to host the Clare Vale racing team’s 8th annual charity event on Sunday, 11 September. The Cheetah Karting Day raises funds for the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre. This year, Nissan SA has taken the naming rights for the event, as well as entered two teams into the race.

The event sees each team compete in a two-hour race around the Zwartkops Kart Circuit, for the coveted bronze Cheetah floating trophy, currently held by INEX Racing. All proceeds from the event go towards the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre – and with over R50 000 raised last year, the challenge is on to raise the bar in 2016.

Commenting on the event, the Clare Vale team says: “Our annual Cheetah Karting Day is always a highlight, and each event leaves us feeling humbled by the support shown for the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre. Many of the teams taking part have been involved since the very first race, and the event has grown into a day of great fun, mixed with plenty of seriously competitive racing! Each team tries to outdo the others in terms of displays and enthusiastic supporters, but at the end of the day every team is a winner when Yeats, the Ambassador Cheetah, arrives to attend prize giving. As a racing team, we love the opportunity to use motorsport to promote and raise funds for such a worthwhile cause and our aim is to build long term relationships between our partners and the Centre.”

The funds raised are used to help the Centre with various projects, as it is completely self-funded. It runs an educational programme called CHEETA, which visits schools, particularly in rural and under-privileged areas, to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife, the environment and recycling. It has also recently built a covered camp at the centre, where children can experience camping and the outdoors.

Xavier Gobille, Managing Director Sales and Marketing Nissan and Sub-Sahara, is excited to be part of the Cheetah Karting Day. “This event really made sense for us to be part of,” he says. “Not only does it speak to our competitive spirit when it comes to anything automotive related, but it also speaks to our softer side. Supporting the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre is a cause close to our hearts – it is essential that we are part of ensuring the well-being of these animals whose speed and agility are inspirational to a brand like Nissan.”

Joining Nissan SA on the track this year will be teams from Continental Tyre SA, Suzuki SA, Jaguar Land Rover, RAM Automotive, Turnkey/NEO Tools, Liqui-Moly SA, INEX Racing, Locost, BESA Learning Institute and Auto Trader. Playstation SA will also be there on the day supporting the event with mobile units for spectators and children to play on while the racing goes on, while Roger McCleery will once again provide entertainment as the event MC.

Prizes will be sponsored by PUMA and Daniela’s Decadently Delicious Macaroons. Also supporting the event are Clare Vale’s official photographers, Sigg Digital; Sequill Media, who will be assisting with artwork and graphic design; and the Clare Vale team who make the event possible.
