The best Fantasy Football weekends are filled with fierce rivalry

Fantasy Football

Primarily this blog post is to help fantasy punters get a feel for what we think is the possible outcome of an English Premier League football fixture, but time has proven that some of the most entertaining weekends are off the pitch. The rivalry is bitter, the punters divided, and the banter fierce! It’s in this spirit of off-field competition we have Andre and Brandon back for a double header, head2head, as these two “mates” go at each other to see who can beat Dirk and Marcel, but more importantly, come out on top between themselves!

Andre: Man United 2 – Bournemouth 0

Manchester United sat out GW26 in light of The EFL Cup Final on Sunday. Bournemouth were beaten 2-1 when they visited West Brom last weekend. The Cherries have lost four straight Premier League fixtures and will be clear underdogs heading into this clash. And with Zlatan being Zlatan lately. The Cherries could be in for a long afternoon.

Brandon: Manchester United 2 – 0 AFC Bournemouth

The matches have been coming thick and fast for Manchester United, with several players looking heavy-legged after their EFL Cup Final victory on the lush Wembley turf. It’s hard to make a case for Bournemouth getting anything out of this match, as they have now leaked a worrying 23 goals in eight games.

Dirk: Man United 2 – 0 Bournemouth

United will be high after their trophy win and at home against an underperforming Bournemouth side it should be easy pickings. United win comfortably at home.

Marcel: Manchester United 3 – 0 Bournemouth

Taking a chance here that my boys will have rested a bit after the celebrations of the EFL Cup win. Bournemouth’s style of enterprising football seems a distant memory and that old man Zlatan is rattling the net prolifically. Perhaps we even see Rooney this week.

RESULT: Man Utd 1 – 1 Bournemouth

Andre: Leicester 2 – Hull 1 WP

After Leicester gave Claudio Ranieri the sack, they suddenly were able to play some footy again. The Foxes hosted Liverpool on MNF and won 3-1 without the Italian in the dugout. The Tigers could leapfrog their hosts and escape the bottom three with a win here.

Brandon: Leicester 1 – 1 Hull

It will be a huge game at King Power and none of the two sides can afford a defeat. I can expect the visitors to park the bus.

Dirk: Leicester 2 – 1 Hull City WP

After their destruction of Liverpool, it could be Leicester of old at home here. I think they’ll carry that momentum to this home game, and even though Hull are improved I don’t think they’ll be able to do enough to beat the Champions at home.

Marcel: Leicester 2 – 0 Hull WP

Leicester’s confidence should be sky-high after the hiding they handed to Klopp’s mediocre Reds. Perhaps the players played for Ranieri last time out, perhaps the unity is restored now they have him out. Either is possible.

RESULT: Leicester City 3 – 1 Hull City

Stoke City

Andre: Stoke 1 – 1 Middlesborough

The Potters have only found the net once in their last three Premier League outings while Middlesborough are without a win in five EPL fixtures and are hopelessly falling towards the Relegation Zone. Hard to pick a winner here, let’s go for a draw

Brandon: Stoke City 1 – 0 Boro WP

Stoke City is struggling as of late with four winless performances in their last five outings, meanwhile, Middlesbrough was worse with a nine-game winless slide. Their last Premier League win was back in December over Swansea City.

Dirk: Stoke City 1 – 0 Boro WP

Boro are in serious trouble if they don’t start scoring. I think this away game is badly timed for their form and Stoke should find a way to score at least the one goal. Boro sliding down the table.

Marcel: Stoke 1 – 0 Boro WP

I don’t fancy either of these teams on recent performances but Stoke are the better team and should be able to see off a miserable Boro at home. If there’s a goal, it will be for the home team.

RESULT: Stoke City 2 – 0 Boro

Andre: Swansea 2 vs 0 Burnley WP

Swansea gave Chelsea a run for their money but came off second best in GW 26. Having said that, Swansea have been a different team under their new coach. And then there’s Burnley who plays like a team possessed when they playing at home but then looks like proper relegation fodder when playing away. Swansea for an easy win, Llorente/Gylfi/Mawson to be involved in any goals scored.

Brandon: Swansea 2 – 0 Burnley WP

There has been hardly anything between the ratings of Swansea and Burnley for the past four rounds of fixtures, so it makes sense to side with the Swans for this fixture.

Dirk: Swansea 2 – 1 Burnley WP

Swansea at home suddenly is a hard fixture again. Clement taking over the club has had the desired effect at they’ll look to strengthen their survival bid against a Burnely side who don’t travel well at all.

Marcel: Swansea 1 – 0 Burnley WP

Swansea have improved recently but their wins have been against Leicester, Southampton and Liverpool. They’re hardly going to smash the lights out. Burnley have picked up 2 points on the road, I can’t see them picking up three here.

RESULT: Swansea City 3 – 2 Burnley

Andre: Watford 1 – 2 Southhampton WP

The Hornets have been beaten just once in their last five Premier League outings and will make life difficult for the visitors. Southampton were in EFL Cup Final action on Sunday and gave a terrific account of themselves at Wembley. But the man who seems to have the midas touch, Gabbiadini, to have the final say.

Brandon: Watford 2 – 1 Southampton

Southampton played some lovely football at Wembley and Manolo Gabbiadini was unfortunate not to hit a hat-trick, I reckon they will feel the effects of the hard battle at Wembley. Watford go into this game one place above the Saints and have already claimed a draw at St Mary’s earlier this season.

Dirk: Watford 1 – 2 Southampton WP

Southampton were extremely unfortunate not to beat United on Sunday, but their performance should be massive encouragement to the side. I think they’ll have the drive to get the goals away to Watford.

Marcel: Watford 1 – 1 Southampton

Southampton are clearly the better side, new signings and proper organisation should see them win but Watford are combative and won’t lie down. A draw for me and the potential for lots of cards.

RESULT: Watford 3 – 4 Southampton

Andre: West Brom 2 – 0 Crystal Palace

Predictions of West Brom enduring a difficult season have been wide of the mark. The Baggies are enjoying a terrific campaign and sit 8th in the Premier League table heading into GW 27. Crystal Palace gave their hopes of survival a huge boost with a 1-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday. But as the saying goes, you only as good as your last game unfortunately, I foresee Palace on the wrong side of a hiding at the Hawthornes

Brandon: West Brom 1 – 1 Crystal Palace

West Brom have been performing at a consistently high level for some time but Crystal Palace are now also on an upward curve and the Eagles could be value to claim a share of the spoils.

Dirk: WBA 2 – 0 Crystal Palace

West Brom have been really great to watch lately, which for a Pulis side feels massively unusual! They’ll have more than enough against a still unconvincing Palace side, whose win against Boro doesn’t feel like a revival but a blip of hope.

Marcel: WBA 2 – 0 Crystal Palace

A few weeks ago I might have backed Palace to get a draw here but Pulis’ side is really firing on all cylinders, while big Sam can barely get a draw out of his team.

RESULT: WBA 0 – 2 Crystal Palace

Andre: Liverpool 2 – 1 Arsenal WP

Liverpool visited Leicester on Monday Night Football and were on the wrong end of a 3-1 score line. The Reds will be keen to bounce back and take maximum points from a Top 4 rival heading into the closing stages of the Premier League Season. The Gunners enjoyed a weekend without EPL commitments and should be well rested ahead of this fixture. Arsenal have suffered costly defeats in recent weeks and cannot afford to leave empty handed, but I think Liverpool should sneak the win at home.

Brandon: Liverpool 2 – 3 Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp’s side have proved as inconsistent as they are thrilling, but have a fine record against top clubs at Anfield this season. Saturday’s encounter could well be a high-scoring match as well, with Arsenal seeking revenge after Liverpool won 4-3 at the Emirates on the opening day of the season

Dirk: Liverpool 2 – 1 Arsenal WP

Arsenal should be the favourites here really, but Klopp’s style is what will worry Wenger and it will disrupt his game plan. Liverpool are excellent against the top 6,  and at home, I think they’ll find the way to put some more pressure on Wenger.

Marcel: Liverpool 1 – 1 Arsenal

I was leaning towards a Liverpool win until I saw Lucas playing in defence against Leicester on Monday. If things are so bad that you have to play Lucas in defence, you’ll have a lot of work for whichever 3rd rate goalkeeper you put between the sticks. At the same time rumours are starting about a Sanchez exit and Ozil has the fans on his back, again.

RESULT: Liverpool 3 – 1 Arsenal

Andre: Spurs 2 – 1 Everton WP

Spurs took full advantage of their rivals having a break in Premier League commitments with a crushing 4-0 win over Stoke. Pochettino’s side jumped to second in the Premiership table and will be keen to chase down Chelsea at the summit. Everton picked up a 2-0 win over Sunderland in GW 26 to boost their European aspirations. The Toffees are in excellent form and provide tougher opposition than Stoke. Spurs for the win!

Brandon: Tottenham 2 – 1 Everton WP

Two EPL Golden Boot contenders go head to head on Sunday as Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku face off at White Hart Lane. Both outfits are in fine form and this is going to be a hard fight for all the points.

Dirk: Spurs 3 – 2 Everton WP + MP

Spurs have been in scintillating form lately, and Everton will visit White Hart Lane is some decent form of their own. It’ll be Lukaku vs Kane, and I think at home Kane will come out tops, but just!

Marcel: Tottenham 0 – 0 Everton

When two teams go to war, one is all that you can score. Or as I predict, no goals as both sides cancel each other out.

RESULT: Spurs 3 – 2 Everton

Andre: Sunderland 1 Man City 2 WP

Sunderland remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table following their 2-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday. The Black Cats have a mountain to climb if they are to preserve their Premier League status. Manchester City had the weekend off due to The EFL Cup Final and have had ample time to prepare for this fixture. City have won three straight Premier League fixtures and will be clear favourites here.

Brandon: Sunderland 1 – 3 Manchester City WP

Sunderland have continued to look doomed for relegation every week despite only being 4 points away from moving out of relegation. The black cats face yet another difficult fixture against Man City that now looks in good form.

Dirk: Sunderland 1 – 2 Man City WP

City are getting into their groove lately, and Sunderland at home may have a moment or two, but definitely three points for the Citizens here!

Marcel: Sunderland 1 – 3 Manchester City WP

City always concede, even against Huddersfield. City usually score though and if they play anything like the way they did against Huddersfield the writing is on the wall for Sunderland. If they keep it together at the back, they could probably beat Sunderland with 8 men.

RESULT: Sunderland 0 – 2 Manchester City

Hint: turn the sound off

Andre: West Ham United 1 – Chelsea 2 WP + MP

West Ham United picked up a draw when they visited Watford in GW 26. The Hammers have been beaten just once in their last five EPL outings and sit mid-table. Chelsea bounced back from their draw at Burnley by defeating Swansea on Saturday. The Blues are ten points clear at the top of the Premiership but have often struggled when visiting West Ham.

Brandon: West Ham 1 – 2 Chelsea WP + MP

All eyes will be on the match to ensure a repeat of the violence between supporters are avoided, while Conte will also be hoping for a better result against the Hammers this time around as he hunts the title.

Dirk: West Ham 1 – 1 Chelsea

I know it looks like a Chelsea win on paper, but this West Ham side in recent weeks has started to look a lot more like the team from last season. I think for this London derby they’ll up things and really take the game to Chelsea, probably a draw in the end but will be a decent derby.

Marcel: West Ham 0 – 3 Chelsea WP

It would be great for the pack and the neutral if West Ham could trip up Chelsea but it seems unlikely. I can’t imagine any result but a win for the Blues, even if West Ham park the bus.

RESULT: West Ham 1 – 2 Chelsea
